Do you want to learn a new style of dance? \nCome and Dance!! \nCome join the Kisarit Finnish-American Folk Dancers of the Twin Cities for a 4-week session of evening dance instructions each Thursday in April\, 2025\, at Hopkins High School. \nKisarit Finnish-American Folkdancers will be offering Finnish basic dance lessons as part of the Community Ed. Adult Enrichment program of the Hopkins High School. We will be teaching basic Finnish dance steps such as the waltz\, jenkka (schottische)\, humppa\, masurkka and some mixers and simple dances. Classes will be held on Thursdays April 3\,10\,17\,24-2025 from 7-8pm. Cost is $50 per attendee. \nTo have a better dance experience\, please try to wear comfortable clothing and smoothed-soled shoes (sneakers not recommended).\nPeople interested can register for the classes by going to the Hopkins Community Education website  or call 952.988.4070 for help & information. \nRegister early as attendance will be limited to 12 attendees.

Bring your friends or plan to make new ones at ASI! \nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each week by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there!

Enjoy time at the beautiful Salolampi site. \nWork weekends (talkoot) at Salolampi began in 1993 with volunteers joining together to assemble three log cabins imported from Finland. These weekends\, one every fall and one every spring\, continue to help maintain the village. Anyone is free to attend work weekends and bring whatever skills they have\, whether it be painting\, chopping wood\, cleaning or organizing. Designed to greet one another\, this slow\, stately “walking dance” is a good time to show off your traditional drakt\, fantasy folk costumes\, or best dress. Live music through the evening throughout the evening from Ole Olssons Oldtime Orkestra\, McNordiques\, Hardingfelelag\, ASI Spelmanslag & Lillalag\, Ballade\, Lauluaika\, and the Twin Cities Nyckelharpalag. \nAll are welcome. No dance experience or partner is necessary for you to have a very fun time. The buffet table will show off delights from Scandinavian cuisine with coffee and tea on the ready. The Ukranian Center is a beautiful venue\, and their bar tender knows just what to mix at the cash bar. We will also pass the hat for the efforts to help Ukraine with emergency services\, re-building\, and other support!
