Do you want to learn a new style of dance? \nCome and Dance!! \nCome join the Kisarit Finnish-American Folk Dancers of the Twin Cities for a 4-week session of evening dance instructions each Thursday in April\, 2025\, at Hopkins High School. \nKisarit Finnish-American Folkdancers will be offering Finnish basic dance lessons as part of the Community Ed. Adult Enrichment program of the Hopkins High School. We will be teaching basic Finnish dance steps such as the waltz\, jenkka (schottische)\, humppa\, masurkka and some mixers and simple dances. Classes will be held on Thursdays April 3\,10\,17\,24-2025 from 7-8pm. Cost is $50 per attendee. \nTo have a better dance experience\, please try to wear comfortable clothing and smoothed-soled shoes (sneakers not recommended).\nPeople interested can register for the classes by going to the Hopkins Community Education website  or call 952.988.4070 for help & information. \nRegister early as attendance will be limited to 12 attendees.

The grasshoppers were decimating the grape crop. \n \nIn the end\, the day offers all of us — Irish\, Finnish\, and everyone else — an occasion for a good party! \nJoin the Ameriikan Poijat brass band with guest vocalists Eeva Savolainen and Elina Koivusaari and organist Megan Engel in concert. Dance music at the reception will be led by the Finnish folk music band Lauluaika. Don’t miss this afternoon of merriment — including dancing\, singing\, a pea soup cook-off contest\, and more! \nThe event is co-sponsored by Christ Church Lutheran and the Finnish American Association.

She will focus on the reader-writers’—women and children’s letters published in Toveritar\, exploring the understanding(s) of weather\, climate\, and seasons. Weather and seasons were recurring themes in Toveritar (Comradess)\, a Finnish-language socialist women’s newspaper published from 1911 to 1930. \nAdditionally\, she will discuss the importance of historical research on colonialism\, climate\, and weather in understanding the cultural impacts of climate change today. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Oct. 3\, 2024\n6:00 pm – 8:00 pm\nAmerican Swedish Institute\nMinneapolis\, MN \nFree \nASI’s Open Nordic Jam is a regular space for musicians of any level to learn and play Nordic folk music together in the historic Turnblad Mansion! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle or any acoustic instrument. This free program is offered in the spirit of building community through cultural exchange. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones at ASI! \nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each week by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there!
